Beau Box Vice President Monty Warren had been looking for warehouse space for his client, Johnson Supply, for more than two years. The Texas-based heating/ventilation/air conditioning and refrigeration wholesaler, which has operated in Lafayette for 26 years, outgrew its Banks Avenue facility long ago but has not been able to find a facility to meet its needs, Warren says.

 

 

The Big 10

So far For fiscal year 2011/2012 — Nov. 1, 2011, to June 14, 2012 — the Top 10 commercial permits issued by Lafayette Consolidated Government in the city of Lafayette and the unincorporated areas of the parish totaled nearly $45 million. Below are the biggest projects currently driving the commercial sector in Lafayette.

 

 

Retail Recap

All signs point to a robust retail market in Lafayette.

With retail sales continuing to hold the top spot as the standout economic indicator in the parish and national retailers getting back in expansion mode, lots of eyes are turning to Lafayette. April sales of more than $459 million brought the year-to-date total to $1.82 billion, an increase of 9.3 percent over 2011. April’s sales reflect an increase of 4.1 percent over April last year. Services, automobiles and building materials are the top performing categories with increases of 13.9 percent, 11 percent and 8.7 percent, respectively, over 2011 numbers. All other categories show increases over last year, except furniture, which is down 7.7 percent, according to numbers reported by the Lafayette Parish School System.

Rouses Expanding

If you like Rouses’ Lafayette store, you’ll love its newest location in New Orleans’ Warehouse District. And if all goes as planned, the second Lafayette store, set to be constructed at Johnston Street and Duhon Road, will open late next summer with many of the same features offered in New Orleans.
