Lafayette-based IberiaBank, the oldest and largest bank in the state, is 125 years old today.

Ask IberiaBank President and CEO Daryl Byrd about the milestone, and the top executive will gladly tell you that the company is looking pretty vibrant for its age.

“This is an opportune time to recognize our founders for their foresight, the very hard work of our associates, the loyalty of our clients and confidence of our shareholders,” Byrd says in a press release. “IberiaBank has remained a vibrant and growing organization dedicated to achieving excellence in all that we do.”

According to a release from IberiaBank, the company has big plans for its birthday bash that include iPad giveaways at every branch starting Monday, the ceremonial ringing of the NASDAQ bell on Wall Street Tuesday morning and free gas for random people at random gas stations on Wednesday.

Bank officials say the details of free iPads can be found by visiting any branch of IberiaBank.

If you can’t make it to New York City for the bank’s ringing of the NASDAQ bell Tuesday morning, the bank will post a video of the event to its website beginning at 8:20 a.m. central time.

Wednesday’s festivities will be fueled through “random acts of kindness" that entail IberiaBank employees “hitting the streets” to give away $12,500 worth of gas to random people at random gas stations.

“Our financial stability provides us the ability to invest in the community.” says Jerry Vascocu, Lafayette president, in the release. “We are very excited to celebrate by simply giving back, particularly in Acadiana where our solid foundation began.”

Founded in New Iberia in 1887, IberiaBank has $11.8 billion in assets, employs more than 2,500 people and has 263 total offices in 12 states.
