Lafayette foreclosures up 34%

Lafayette is one of four metro areas in the state to experience a jump in foreclosures during the third quarter. Lafayette recorded 290 actions, affecting one of every 388 properties. The area ranked 162nd overall and saw its rate rise 8.2 percent from the second quarter and 34.3 percent from the third quarter of 2009, the Associated Press reported.

The AP story is based on figures from the national tracking firm RealtyTrac and include foreclosure related actions ranging from an initial notice of default to lender repossession.

The New Orleans metro was highest in the state, recording 2,810 foreclosure-related actions, affecting one of every 159 properties and ranking the area 82nd in the RealtyTrac count. That rate was up 12.1 percent from the second quarter of 2010 and 56.4 percent from the third quarter of 2009. Baton Rouge recorded 1,109 actions that affected one in 295 properties, ranking 146th. The latest rate was up 7.8 percent from the second quarter and 29.7 percent from the third quarter of 2009. Houma-Thibodaux had 121 third-quarter actions, affecting one in every 682 properties. The area was ranked 189th. The latest rate was up 8 percent from the second quarter and 18.6 percent from the third quarter of 2009.

The only metro down was Shreveport-Bossier City, which fell 3.6 percent from the second quarter and 13.1 percent from the third, recording 433 actions, affecting one of every 402 properties and ranking the area 166th. RealtyTrac did not release foreclosure data on Lake Charles, Monroe or Alexandria.

Cities in California, Florida, Nevada and Arizona had the highest rates. Read more here.

Where, pray tell are the expert economists who spoofed that Lafayette vwould not feel the crunch, and now with the BP fiasco blowout the numbers are showing, actually the numbers changing were very much evident if one did not look away due to being mis-led by the local D.A. REALTORS.

Actually Northsidian shotgun, according to the LA Dept. of Labor, the unemployment rates in ALL of the major metropolitan areas in Louisiana was DOWN in September! The Lafayette area was at 6.6 and is now down to 6.2 and our area is the second best in the state.

knowledge allows you to earn a decent wage toiling for the person with money. Our area stands as best, yes that is evident, but the number of homes being foreclosed are rising, and if you want to acquire more knowledge,ask our local banks if you doubt this as a cold hard fact, REALTOR !
