What would be the advice from an old veteran in the energy business to a bright, hard working youngest, just starting out? Nuclear power? Oil? Coal? Natural gas? Wind energy? Solar electricity? Geothermal? Or find another line of work, which will not bankrupt you in middle age, if a few Congressmen, or lawyers surprise you? The last has been the main choice for decades. America has not built a new refinery, nuclear power plant, or large coal plant in 35 years. The people who were experts in these technologies "moved on", "started over." Their careers were destroyed by folks in Washington D.C. and in various law courts.

Things will get much worse before it gets better. America uses energy, buys energy, but may not make energy. I have a hand full of engineering degrees, and Professional Engineering licenses, worked on a score of nukes, two score of fossil plants, and spent a decade assessing advanced technologies such as superconductivity, and nanotechnology, forty years in energy engineering. My advice: Energy is a rigged game. Learn Mandarin, and vote against every incumbent. - R. L. Hails Sr. P. E.
