Had lunch at Poupart's Bistro today. Menu provided a variety of awesome foods. Daily lunch special was the best. Food was excellent, service was great. Desserts available were an added treat.
Welcome to Downtown - Poupart's. - CBN

Downtown's Where it's at! Amazing restaurants, and stores and there's plenty of folks working there during the day in need of something just like this- not to mention residents who would love to pick up dinner on the way home.

Further- when tourists come to lafayette and love it- that's what they see! Downtown, not river ranch. It will just be one more charming addition-

So, Come downtown! There's plenty of parking. (And get over it- yes, you may have to walk a block or two- help ya burn off that croissant!)

(PS-this is not to say RR shouldn't get one- have one if you want. I think it's just smart of Poupart's to recognize how much this would be welcome down here). - Neut.

in reply to Howie in Broussard,

Do try the America's Coffee House Downtown. You can park for free (with a ticket validated by America's) in the lot with the Tsunami sign at the corner of Buchanan and Garfield. And as a single female I've never felt threatened by any downtown "characters". And it is nice to have both Pouparts and Americas available. - LIB

@kjnkid57---Call River Ranch a "sanitized venue" all you like, but how often are people attacked--or worse--in River Ranch? But I guess the two teenagers attacked in downtown Lafayette two nights ago don't matter--not when capturing the "soul" of "the experience" is so important to you. - B Chermeat

Street characters are where you find them. Street characters are great. They add "local color." But panhandlers are another story altogether. - B Chermeat

YAHOOOO! Been wishin' for this for a long time!! Now that downtown has become safer and cleaner (all welcome trends), it is all the more walkable and livable. This is a great BIG PLUS to the downtown!! They will draw from downtown, the university and even the Oil Center as it's easier to maneauver than Poupart's on Pinhook. Now, all we need is a nice outdoor fruits and veggies and seafood merchant and ....... - urbane

Only the Lafayetteois could morph a nice discussion about Poupart's into a vilification of street characters. - StoneWallOld

And the characters are fleecing the tax paying public for a lot more than loose change. - kjnkid57

You can play New Orleans music anywhere but it just ain't the same. You will never capture the soul of the experience in the sanitized venue of River Ranch. - kjnkid57

There are plenty of "characters" walking around River Ranch, they're just dressed nicer. - clint reno

B Chermeat has a really good point. You never know what you're going to get downtown. I always want to try out that Americas Coffee House, but I can never find parking...and there are plenty of "characters" walking around wherever I do find a spot....sorry I'll get my espresso fix, elsewhere! - Howie in Broussard

I find River Ranch more centrally located. From there, you can head in any direction. Actually, I'm finding RR in many ways the NEW downtown. Just one example: Rhythms on the River on Thursday nights is far more pleasant than Downtown Alive! It's cleaner; parking is easier; walking in River Ranch is more enjoyable. Downtown you never know when homeless pandhandlers are going to hit you up for money. I have yet to see the first panhandler in River Ranch. - B Chermeat

I'm thankful it's NOT in River Ranch and squarely downtown. I find River Ranch way less "welcoming" and accessible than downtown. - plebian

Why didn't they locate in River Ranch? Granted, CC's is already there. But there's plenty of business to support two bistros. Oh, well, I guess since they're already at Pinhook and Kaliste Saloom, a second location would be redundant. Still, the roads in and out of the River Ranch area make it more accessible. Getting downtown in the morning and parking is not as easy. - B Chermeat
