The shale boom is a sham. One more roll in the hay for the oil industry...how many more does the old girl have left in her? Look at the current ramp up in every oil buidness sector...Watch and mark these words...give it two years max before the bottom starts falling out and they start laying off people by the thousands. And as long as Texas keeps letting Mexicans across their borders, the worse things are going to get here in America. - get chur comments in whilst you still can

What if you owned an oil company? What if you saw production falling about 2% a year? Would you :

A.) Admit this to your stockholders and lobby for all profits go toward renewables for the next 10 to 20 years?
B.) Say that you have found new oil deposits of over a trillion barrels?
C.) Cash out and retire after causing an oil spill?
d.) Do nothing but rack in bigger profits for at least the next 5 years? - Trouble

Stunning is the ignorance displayed in this article. The US geologic survey estimates a 90% probability of 3 billion barrels produced from the bakken. No one has yet come up with a way to extract the kerogen deposits in colorado that will yield more energy than consumed in production. We would need 5-6 prudhoe bay's to be energy independant given current consumption of 18 million barrels per day. This was a totally lame article.

We live in a "Fair and Balanced" world don't we?

"Energy boom taking hold" provided the Fair. You can find the Balance here.

"Every silver lining has a cloud, and the bad news is that Montana production peaked in December 2006 and has already declined to 62% of the peak volume. This decline in Montana’s production indicate that what is commonly billed as a homogeneous geologic formation is in fact heterogeneous. The pattern of production suggests that the region of economically viable and productive wells is not ubiquitous, but rather concentrated in a few important areas."

"George Orwell wrote that, ”He who controls the present, controls the past, and he who controls the past, controls the future.” There is more than a nugget of truth in this statement. The future is guided by the stories which shape our imagination and our perception of what is possible, and therefore what is pursued."

Keep this prediction on file somewhere. I strongly suspect it's a boatload of oil industry propaganda. That's all Briggs is good for anymore. - b f
