Jindal officials reaffirm resistance to health reform

Once again, Louisiana health care officials affirmed Gov. Bobby Jindal's commitment to block all the changes provided for by the Affordable Care Act, the Shreveport Times reports.

The Shreveport Times reports that state health officials stressed the governor's continued opposition to the law while in the nation's capitol Thursday, telling other attendees of America's Health Insurance Plans' annual State Issues Conference:

"In Louisiana we believe that [the 2010 law] does not enhance the private market," Carol Steckel, the state's director of health care reform, said. "We are not going to do a state-based exchange."

Again, officials cited cost-factor, the Times reports, claiming implementation of the law would cost the state $3.6 billion — that estimate does not take into account the federal government's contribution, which never dips below 90 percent funding.
