MoveOn.org’s billboard parodying Louisiana’s “Pick Your Passion” tourism slogan won’t be going away any time soon, thanks largely to a stream of donations prompted by a lawsuit from Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne.
The sign — which reads “Lou!siana Pick you passion! But hope you don’t love your health. Gov. Jindal’s denying Medicaid to 242,000 people” — went up in March, and was quickly followed with a lawsuit from Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne alleging trademark infringement.
A federal judge sided with MoveOn.org last month, and on Tuesday, Dardenne officially dropped his lawsuit against the organization, reports the Times-Picayune.
According to MoveOn.org’s website, Dardenne’s lawsuit has resulted in a stream of donations, at least enough to keep the billboard up through November: “And if enough MoveOn members chip in, we’ll be able to keep the billboard up through the rest of Jindal’s term. It costs about $4.50 an hour to keep the billboard going.”
